PHNOM PENH: Cambodia will send a 106-member delegation to compete in 14 sports at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, the country's Olympic chief said Monday (Sept 14).
Senior Minister Thong Khon, president of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, said Cambodian athletes will compete in swimming, athletics, boxing, jiu-jitsu, judo, karate, taekwondo, triathlon, wrestling, esports, teqball, mixed martial arts, sailing and soft tennis.
"Among the 14 sports, we have identified six with high potential for winning medals: jiu-jitsu, taekwondo, triathlon, karate, mixed martial arts and esports," Khon said.
He made the remarks while leading the delegation at a farewell meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun at the Peace Palace ahead of its departure for Japan.
The 20th Asian Games will run from September 19 to October 4, with more than 10,000 athletes expected to compete in 469 events across 43 sports.
Cambodia will aim to improve on its performance at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, where it took one bronze medal in the women's team kata event in karate. - Xinhua
