Nearly 4,000 fans filled Idea Live Arena, Kuala Lumpur, on Sept 5,for “Ungu 3 Dasawarsa: Special Night in Kuala Lumpur”, a celebration of music, nostalgia and lasting memories that highlighted the strong connection between legendary Indonesian band Ungu and their Malaysian fans.
Interestingly, Ungu opened the show with “Cindai”, a song famously popularised by Malaysia’s ‘National Songstress’, Dato’ Seri Siti Nurhaliza. The unexpected opening instantly sent waves of excitement through Idea Live Arena, with fans erupting into cheers before Ungu continued the momentum with “Cinta Gila”, “I Need You”, “Ciuman Pertama”, “Hampa Hatiku” and “Percaya Padaku”.
The mood then shifted into a more intimate and romantic space with “Sejauh Mungkin”, “Seperti Yang Dulu” and “Cinta Dalam Hati”, before nostalgia took centre stage through “Gerimis Mengundang”, “Andai Ku Tahu” and “Bila Tiba”.
Each performance carried its own emotion, bringing back memories of love, heartbreak, hope and meaningful moments that listeners have cherished over the years.
One of the evening’s most anticipated moments arrived when Malaysian powerhouse vocalist Marsha Milan joined Ungu on stage for “Bismillah Cinta” and “Tercipta Untukku”.
Welcomed by thunderous cheers, Marsha brought her signature vocal strength and emotional delivery to both collaborations, creating a memorable meeting of two distinctive musical identities.
For Marsha, the opportunity to share the stage with Ungu during their 30th anniversary celebration was a deeply meaningful experience.
“I was incredibly excited and deeply touched to be allowed to be part of such a meaningful night for Ungu and their fans. Ungu’s songs are already so close to the hearts of so many people, so being able to sing alongside them in front of thousands of fans is a memory I will never forget,” said Marsha.
Following the special collaborations, Ungu returned to the stage with “Utara - Selatan”, “Aku Tahu” and “Kekasih Gelapku”, keeping the audience on their feet.
The emotional high point came with “Demi Waktu”, as thousands of fans joined Pasha and the band in singing every word. For a few unforgettable moments, the distinction between performer and audience seemed to disappear, with the entire arena becoming one giant chorus.
For Pasha, witnessing the response from Malaysian fans was a powerful reminder of the relationship Ungu has built over three decades.
“Thirty years is a very long journey. We have gone through so many stories, challenges and memories along the way. But when we see fans in Kuala Lumpur still singing our songs together, we feel incredibly grateful. They are an important part of Ungu’s journey,” said Pasha.
Ungu brought the concert to its energetic finale with “Seperti Mati Lampu”, sending the evening off with one final wave of cheers and celebration.
According to the Concert Director, En. Zairul Addry Helmy of COMs. Creative Studio, the overwhelming turnout and response from fans made the evening particularly meaningful.
“We are extremely grateful that nearly 4,000 fans came together to celebrate three decades of Ungu. From the very beginning, we wanted to create a concert that was more than just a performance, but an experience that would leave a lasting memory. Seeing the fans sing, smile and immerse themselves in every song alongside Ungu tonight was incredibly rewarding and something we are very proud of,” he said.
He added that Marsha’s participation brought a special dimension to the concert.
“The collaboration between Marsha and Ungu truly became one of the special highlights of the night. It brought a different colour to the performance while also showing how music has the power to unite artists and fans across generations,” he added.
From “Cindai” to “Seperti Mati Lampu”, “Ungu 3 Dasawarsa: Special Night in Kuala Lumpur” celebrated far more than 30 years on stage. It celebrated a legacy built on music, friendship, perseverance and millions of memories shared with generations of fans.
Nearly 4,000 people gathered not simply to watch Ungu perform, but to relive the songs that have become part of their own life stories. Thirty years may have passed, but Ungu’s music continues to endure. And as long as their songs are sung and their fans continue to stand beside them, the story of Ungu will keep living on across generations.
For the record, Ungu is an Indonesian rock band formed in Jakarta in 1996. Its previous names were Glasses (1992–1995) and Glover (1995–1996). The group currently comprises vocalist Pasha, guitarists Enda and Onci, bassist Makki, and drummer Rowman.
They are widely recognised as one of the most successful and influential pop-rock bands in Indonesia, enjoying immense popularity not only in their home country but also across neighbouring South-East Asian countries.
