One dead, two hospitalised after car crashes into cafe at Melbourne shopping centre

MELBOURNE, (Australia): (Bernama-Xinhua) A woman has died and two other people have been hospitalised after a car crashed into a cafe at an eastern Melbourne shopping centre on Monday (Aug 24) afternoon, reported Xinhua.

A police statement said that emergency services were called to the crash site at a shopping centre in Wantirna South, 25 kilometres east of central Melbourne, around 12.45 pm on Monday.

A female patron who was seated outside the premises died at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said that a second cafe patron was assessed at the scene by ambulance paramedics.

A crime scene has been established, and detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the incident.

"Police do not believe the incident was an intentional act," the statement said.
