SINGAPORE: Singapore has stepped up monitoring of air quality after observing surge in hotspots and smoke activity in parts of Indonesia over the weekend.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) said hotspots and dense smoke plumes were detected mainly in Kalimantan and southern Sumatra, while some smoke plumes were also observed in Riau, raising the possibility of hazy conditions affecting Singapore in the coming days.
NEA said Singapore’s 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) ranged from 68 to 90, within the Moderate range, on Monday (Aug 24), with the central region recording a PSI reading of 91 as at 2pm.
