Eight teens charged with murder over fatal assault in Brisbane


SYDNEY (Xinhua): Eight teenagers have been charged with murder over the fatal assault of a 21-year-old man in Australia's Brisbane late in July.

The 21-year-old man died in hospital after he was found with significant head injuries by police who were called to a large disturbance involving a group of people in southern Brisbane in the early hours of July 26.

A police statement said that detectives on Sunday arrested four males, three aged 18 and a 17-year-old, and charged them with murder.

It comes after four others, two 19-year-olds and two 18-year-olds, were arrested and charged with murder on Thursday following extensive investigations into the incident.

Police initially said that officers at the scene on July 26 observed significant damage to vehicles and a residence.

The 21-year-old was located as people who were involved in the disturbance fled the scene. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died on Aug 1.

Police on Sunday thanked members of the community for significant assistance, cooperation and support provided to detectives throughout the investigation. -- Xinhua
