Four Chinese sentenced to life for double murder

SIHANOUKVILLE: The Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court has sentenced four Chinese nationals to life imprisonment for the killing of a kidnapped Chinese couple last July.

An August 6 court statement said the verdict, delivered on August 5, found the four defendants guilty of “premeditated murder” under Article 200 of the Criminal Code.

In addition to the prison sentences, the court ordered the four convicts to jointly pay $300,000 in compensation to each of the two civil plaintiffs.

The couple were kidnapped from a hotel in Sihanoukville in July 2025.

While the court did not release the identities of the convicts or the victims, police records show that authorities arrested seven Chinese nationals during operations in July and August last year. The suspects were identified as Ren Jiasheng, Jiang Bao, Ye Yiyong, Huang Yong, Xiong Qang Hai, Chan XingLai and Guo Qiang.

After the group killed Zhang Rujuan and her partner Dong Yuanyuan, the group dumped the bodies in the Bassac River in Po Ban commune, Koh Thom district, Kandal province. Their remains were discovered on July 23. - Phnom Penh Post
