MANILA: Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was hoisted by state meteorologists in four areas on Sunday morning due to Tropical Depression Luis.
As of 5am, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) had raised Signal No. 1 over the Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, the northern portion of Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.
Apart from the four areas, Luis is also forecast to bring scattered rain and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, the rest of Calabarzon and the Bicol Region, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, Aklan, and Antique.
Pagasa said Luis was last spotted 295km east of Daet, Camarines Norte, moving west-south-westwards slowly.
It is carrying maximum sustained winds of 55kph and gusts of up to 70kph.
Luis will "remain over the West Philippine Sea", but may make landfall or make a close approach to Northern Luzon if its movement shifts westwards, Pagasa added.
The cyclone is also anticipated to intensify within the next 24 hours, but "will likely remain a tropical storm for only a short period", the state weather bureau reported. - The Inquirer/ANN
