Long March spirit brought to life through art exhibition

HANGZHOU: To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Red Army's Long March victory, the China Academy of Art is showcasing a collection of inspiring artworks depicting the arduous journey to triumph.

Located in the heart of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, the academy is a member of the Times' Palette Art Academy Alliance, an international cultural and collaborative partnership between China Daily and the country's top-tier fine arts academies to promote cultural exchange, host large-scale global art exhibitions and publish visual art.

Each piece in the series of powerful artworks by CAA artists is a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Long March, serving as both a tribute and a narrative of resilience, courage and hope.

The Long March (1934-36), a monumental journey of survival and determination, has become a towering spiritual monument in Chinese history.

The artworks, painted with vibrant colours and deep faith, explore this epic journey from various perspectives, each telling a story of the Long March spirit.

One painting depicts the image of the "Great Wall of flesh and blood", symbolising the unity and strength of the Chinese people during times of peril. Another artwork portrays the treacherous snow-capped mountains and deep ravines, where revolutionaries supported one another through relentless challenges.

A third piece focuses on the daring moments of crossing the iron chains over raging rivers amid the chaos of gunfire and smoke. The painting immortalises a moment of bravery, with soldiers crawling forward, embodying the iron will and fearless sacrifice of the Red Army, their spirits as unbreakable as steel.

These works, though created in different eras, resonate with a shared purpose and direction, offering a heartfelt celebration of the Long March spirit.

They open a window to the world, showcasing the unique perspective and Eastern aesthetics of Chinese artists.

Through their brushstrokes, they transform the harsh and glorious historical scenes into a tangible visual language, allowing viewers to connect emotionally and understand the core values and steadfastness of the Communist Party of China.

Through this collection of art, a vivid and comprehensive view of China is presented, revealing the trials and triumphs of a nation that has become confident, open and inclusive. - China Daily/ANN
