BEIJING: (Bernama-Xinhua) The National Meteorological Centre renewed an orange typhoon alert at 6pm on Friday (July 24) as Typhoon Noul, the 12th typhoon of the year, is expected to make landfall along the coast of south China's Guangdong Province between Saturday (July 25) evening and Sunday (July 26) morning, reported Xinhua.
Typhoon Noul was upgraded from tropical storm to severe tropical storm on Friday afternoon. After making landfall between Zhuhai and Raoping in Guangdong, the typhoon will turn northward and gradually weaken, the centre said.
From 8pm Friday to 8pm Saturday, parts of eastern Guangdong and Taiwan are expected to experience heavy to torrential rain due to the typhoon, with some areas in southeastern Taiwan possibly seeing downpours.
Strong winds are expected in parts of the South China Sea, the Bashi Channel, the waters east of Taiwan, the Taiwan Strait, the southern East China Sea, as well as the coastal areas of Taiwan, Fujian and Guangdong.
China has a four-tier, colour-coded weather warning system for typhoons, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue. - Bernama-Xinhua
