DHAKA: A man was arrested at Jahangirnagar University (JU) after allegedly secretly filming inside the women's washroom at the university's Teachers-Students Centre (TSC).

The accused, Riaz Ahmed, 23, a resident of Keraniganj, was picked up from the the university’s TSC around 2am Tuesday (June 30).

Later, the university administration filed a case against him around 6:00am under the Pornography Control Act with Ashulia Police Station.

"The accused has been shown arrested in the case and was produced before the court this morning," Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Tariqul Islam said.

Mohammed Abu Sayed, deputy registrar of the university's Security Division and the complainant in the case, told The Daily Star that students heard a man's voice outside the women's washroom around 1:30am.

Finding the accused Riaz there, they asked what he was doing there and upon suspicion checked his mobile phone and found several sensitive videos secretly recorded of female students, he said.

The university's security personnel subsequently detained the accused and handed him over to police around 2:30am, Abu Sayed said.

OC Tariqul Islam said a preliminary investigation had found merit in the allegations, although the findings would be confirmed following a forensic examination of the suspect's mobile phone. - The Daily Star/ANN
