JAKARTA: Indonesia has launched a school holiday shopping campaign offering discounts of up to 50 per cent to boost domestic consumption and tourist trips.

The programme involves 800 brands, around 80,000 outlets, and 414 shopping centres across 24 provinces, the Ministry of Tourism said Thursday (June 25).

The ministry's spokesperson Nia Niscaya said the campaign is part of the government's efforts to encourage people to travel domestically and explore more accessible and affordable destinations.

She said shopping tourism can broaden the economic impact of tourism by supporting retailers, shopping centres, micro, small, and medium enterprises, culinary businesses and the creative economy. - Xinhua
