BEIJING: Myanmar and China signed 18 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering security, development, trade, health, science, media and infrastructure cooperation during President Min Aung Hlaing’s state visit to China.
At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Min Aung Hlaing, who is on a state goodwill visit to China, was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing at around 10 a.m. local time on June 16. The two leaders later held bilateral talks.
Following the meeting, the two sides signed several key cooperation documents, including MoUs on jointly advancing China’s Global Security Initiative (GSI), Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), and Global Development Initiative (GDI), as well as cooperation in human resource development for 2026 and Chinese assistance for the reconstruction of the new Aung San Stadium.
The agreements also covered phytosanitary requirements for Myanmar exports of Chinese medicinal plants and fresh bananas to China, inspection and quarantine requirements for aquatic products, facilitation of cross-border transport in the Greater Mekong Subregion, health cooperation, science and technology exchanges, intellectual property rights, competition policy, media cooperation and support for free trade and multilateral cooperation.
In addition, the two countries exchanged documents related to emergency humanitarian technical assistance for earthquake response and cooperation in media development, technology, and knowledge sharing.
The 18 agreements and MoUs were signed and exchanged by relevant officials from both countries in the presence of President Min Aung Hlaing and President Xi Jinping. - Eleven Media/ANN
