Labour raid uncovers wage, leave violations affecting 16 workers in Belait

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Four labour law violations affecting 16 workers were uncovered during an enforcement operation at a company premises in Jalan Maulana, Kuala Belait.

The findings were made during Operasi Usai 129/2026, conducted on May 27 by the Law Enforcement Division of the Labour Department’s Belait branch to ensure compliance with the Employment Order, Chapter 278.

Investigations revealed offences including unauthorised salary deductions, non-payment of wages and overtime, requiring workers to work on rest days, and failure to provide medical leave certified by a registered medical practitioner.

The Labour Department said further investigations are ongoing.

If found guilty, the employer may face compound fines of up to BND1,000 for each offence. Failure to settle the fines could result in prosecution in court.

The department reminded employers to comply fully with labour laws, including timely payment of wages, provision of statutory leave entitlements, observance of public holidays, and responsibility for return air tickets upon completion of contracts. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
