VIENTIANE: Laos' Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare held a meeting in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation to review a draft training manual on eliminating discrimination, including gender-based violence, in the workplace.
The meeting, held in Lao capital Vientiane on Thursday (June 4), was organised under a project aimed at eliminating workplace discrimination, harassment, and child labor in Laos, according to the ministry on Friday (June 5).
Speaking at the meeting, Phongsavanh Xaykosy, director general of the ministry's labor management department, said the meeting aimed to build consensus on the manual's content and ensure it reflects the realities and needs of Laos, while maximising its effectiveness and practical application.
He noted that the ministry is currently reviewing and revising the Labour Law, which is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly for approval in 2027.
The revised law will include a dedicated section on eliminating discrimination in employment, strengthening equality, fairness, and the protection of workers' rights. - Xinhua
