Woman in Philippines busted for illegal sale of high-powered firearms in Makati

MANILA: The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested a woman in Makati City who was allegedly selling unregistered firearms to politicians.

In a statement on Wednesday (June 3), the NBI said it received information that the woman, who is supposedly a gun dealer, was “selling unregistered, high-powered, fully automatic long firearms to politicians who maintain private armed groups, particularly from Central Mindanao, Sulu, and Basilan.”

The NBI agents confirmed the information after finding out that the subject offered to sell long firearms without asking for a License to Own and Possess Firearms from their customers.

Following this, the NBI’s Counter-Terrorism Division, along with the bureau’s Counter Intelligence Division and Technical Intelligence Division, went to the gun store in a Makati to conduct an entrapment operation on May 28.

During the operation, the subject offered the undercover agents to sell four unregistered automatic rifles and two unregistered pistols for P1 million.

The NBI agents pretended to accept the subject’s offer and gave her the marked money as a supposed payment.

The subject immediately received the cash. While counting the marked money in front of the agents, she was then immediately placed under arrest.

The woman was brought to the NBI headquarters in Pasay City for standard booking procedures and will be presented for inquest proceedings for violations of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
