MANILA: The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Monday (May 25) said an investigation has been launched into the collapse of a nine-storey building under construction in Angeles City.
“The department… extended its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and those who remain missing,” it said in a statement.
“All concerned agencies remain fully coordinated and committed to exhausting every possible effort until all individuals are accounted for.”
“Authorities have likewise begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the structure,” it added.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning, May 24, when a mixed-use structure under construction in Barangay Balibago collapsed, affecting a neighboring apartelle.
Twenty-six individuals have been rescued so far, while four were confirmed dead and 17 remained missing, as of noon on May 25, according to the DILG.
It noted that 267 rescue personnel had been deployed to the site, including the Bureau of Fire Protection Special Rescue Force, Emergency Medical Service, and the augmentation units of its Central Luzon offices.
“Rescue trucks, ambulances, firetrucks, technical rescue equipment, and specialized assets continue to operate under highly dangerous and unstable conditions as responders work around the clock to locate and retrieve those trapped beneath the rubble,” the DILG added. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
