Get set for a happy, fun time - KL Street Arts Festival 2026 to bring colour to Dataran Merdeka this June

Kuala Lumpur is set to come alive with an explosion of urban art, street music and creative culture through the KL Street Arts Festival 2026, held in collaboration with the KL Street Jam programme, on 20 June 2026 (Saturday) from 12 to 11pm at Jalan Raja, Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.

The festival brings together various elements of street art and urban culture in a community-scale event that celebrates the creativity of local artists and creative practitioners.

Among the key highlights of the festival are Visual Arts, Music & Buskers, Street Performers, Handicrafts & Craft Booths, Art Seminars & Creative Sharing Sessions, as well as Urban Arts Festival Activities & Interactive Programmes, all of which are expected to attract visitors from all walks of life.

In the evening session, visitors will be entertained with a series of special KL Street Jam performances featuring local performers and artists who are closely associated with Malaysia’s street culture and alternative music scene. Among the names set to perform are Baba Andy, Maman Teacher’s Pet, Aru Peruzza, Muzza’s Velvettones, as well as special performances by DBKL Cultural Artists & Combo, all of whom are expected to enliven the atmosphere throughout the festival.

In addition to stage performances, the festival will also provide opportunities for knowledge-sharing and creative exchange through art seminar sessions featuring several local creative panels. Among them are Cheb Ali, a calligraphy artist from Egypt, Mr Labu, one of Malaysia’s senior clown art practitioners, and Yosh Studio, who will conduct workshops and sharing sessions related to origami art.

These sessions will touch on various aspects of urban art, visual creativity, street culture and the development of the independent local arts industry.

The programme will also involve the participation of the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), which will share awareness on the dangers of drug abuse and its negative impact on society, particularly among youths and members of the creative community.

Through a collaboration with Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia (KARYAWAN), AADK is also expected to launch a special campaign themed “Music Without Drugs” as part of efforts to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle through the medium of arts and music.

The festival will also feature nearly 20 local art and craft exhibitors showcasing a wide variety of creative works and handmade products for visitors throughout the event.

The organisation of this festival is not only aimed at uplifting local street art talents and creative communities, but also serves as a platform to

strengthen Kuala Lumpur’s identity as an active, progressive and people-friendly arts city. Set against the iconic backdrop of Dataran Merdeka and the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, the festival is expected to deliver a unique and impactful urban arts experience for visitors.

The event also supports the initiative by Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia (KARYAWAN) together with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) in strengthening the “Seniman Kota” brand that was previously introduced — an initiative involving licensed street performers and creative artists under DBKL.

Support from Yayasan Hasanah through the Arts for All Seasons (ArtsFAS) initiative has also been one of the key factors contributing to the success of this festival. ArtsFAS is an annual grant platform and initiative led by Yayasan Hasanah, the impact-based foundation under Khazanah Nasional.

The initiative was established to preserve, conserve and celebrate Malaysia’s arts, culture and heritage through funding support, performance spaces and economic opportunities for local arts practitioners. The public is invited to attend and celebrate this festival, which is open free of charge to all visitors.
