BANGKOK: (Bernama) The Thai government has approved 45 multi-year projects worth a combined 111.02 billion baht (RM13.49 billion) to ensure the continued implementation of key national initiatives.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Persvivatana said that of the total, 17.46 billion baht will be allocated under the fiscal year 2027 budget, while the remaining 93.56 billion baht will be committed for subsequent years.

"The approved projects span six ministries - Finance; Agriculture and Cooperatives; Transport; Justice; Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation; and Interior - and are aimed at supporting long-term national development,” she said in a statement following a Cabinet meeting at Government House on Tuesday (April 28).

Lalida said the bulk of the allocation goes to 20 projects under the Ministry of Transport worth 45.70 billion baht that include road construction to ease congestion and the leasing of 800 electric buses to replace ageing fleets.

Next, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has been allocated 27.38 billion baht to oversee its 13 projects that include a water diversion scheme in Chonburi to enhance reservoir capacity and support urban, industrial, and tourism growth.

Lalida said the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation has been allocated 25.74 billion baht for five projects that include the development of medical facilities and the establishment of a new medical faculty in Nakhon Phanom to address regional healthcare shortages.

The Ministry of Interior will implement projects worth 8.94 billion baht, including the expansion of water supply systems in Chonburi to support households and businesses in line with development plans under the Eastern Economic Corridor.

The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Justice will undertake projects worth 1.75 billion baht and 1.51 billion baht, respectively, and the projects include upgrades to cargo inspection systems and the construction of a new correctional facility in Ayutthaya.

Lalida said the projects are intended to drive sustained economic growth and improve public infrastructure nationwide. - Bernama
