Indonesia in talks to export fertiliser to India, Brazil, Thailand, Philippines

JAKARTA: Indonesia is in talks to export 1 million tons of fertiliser to India, the Philippines, Thailand, and Brazil its cabinet secretary said.

The 1 million ton export commitment is on top of 250,000 tons of fertiliser shipped to Australia, cabinet secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in a president's office statement late on Tuesday.

Indonesia's total domestic production of urea fertiliser is 7.8 million tons, while domestic needs are at 6.3 million tons, Teddy added, citing agriculture ministry data.

Fertiliser shortages due to the Iran war are a pressing concern for developing countries and gains from rising oil and gas prices for developing world producers are likely to be short-lived, the head of the United Nations trade ‌agency said last week.- Reuters
