PHNOM PENH: Cambodian authorities deported 1,175 foreign nationals of 28 different nationalities in the week between April 12 and April 19, after determining their involvement in various illegal activities, according to the General Department of Immigration (GDI).

According to the statement, among those deported were 167 women, representing a wide range of nationalities, including Rwanda, Cameroon, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka, China, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, Madagascar, Ghana, the Philippines, Lebanon, Korea, Malaysia, the UK, Poland, Taiwan, Kyrgyzstan and Canada.

“Among them, 327 Chinese nationals involved in online scam operations were deported through the Techo International Airport immigration checkpoint, while 226 Vietnamese nationals involved in online scams were deported through the Chakrey International Border Checkpoint,” said authorities.

“Other foreign nationals, who were implicated in illegal border crossings, document forgery, overstaying, extortion, the use of fake visas (including fraudulent QR codes), online scams, illegal employment, and other criminal offenses, were also deported via Techo International Airport,” it added.

Authorities noted that the deportations are part of strict law enforcement measures aimed at cracking down on crime, particularly the technology-related offenses that have emerged in the kingdom.

At the same time, authorities noted that these efforts are not limited to arrests and deportations, but also include rescuing victims who were deceived into participating in illegal activities, ensuring they regain their freedom and can safely return to their home countries. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
