PHNOM PENH: The total value of bilateral trade between Cambodia and the US in the first quarter of 2026 was approximately US$3.5 billion, an increase of nearly 40% compared to the same period last year. Most notable was an almost 70% leap in US imports.

The General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) reported that from January to March, trade between the two amounted to $3.48 billion, up 39.3% from the $2.5 billion recorded in the first quarter of 2025.

Exports to the US were valued at $3.36 billion, up 38.4%, while US imports soared 67.9% to total $126.08 million.

Cambodia’s US trade surplus increased to approximately $3.23 billion, up from $2.35 billion in the same period last year.

Lim Heng, vice-president of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, noted that as political relations between the two countries continue to improve, trade activities are expected to gain further momentum.

“Most of Cambodia’s exports to the US consist of garments, footwear, travel goods and bicycles. Meanwhile, imports from the US include vehicles, electronic products, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and other consumer goods,” he said.

“Cambodia is expected to expand its range of export products to the US market, as the number of investment projects approved by Cambodian authorities continues to rise,” he added.

In 2025, total bilateral trade between Cambodia and the United States reached $13.14 billion, up 29.24% from 2024.

Cambodia exported $12.73 billion to the US, up 28.48%, while importing $417, according to the ministry of Commerce. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
