JAKARTA (Bernama-ANTARA): Indonesia’s National Police (Polri) and the United Nations (UN) Police Division are strengthening their ongoing cooperation to support global peace missions, with a primary emphasis on ensuring the security and safety of personnel serving in conflict zones.

The cooperation was discussed during a meeting between Indonesia’s Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo and UN Police Adviser Faisal Shahkar in Jakarta on Monday.

In the meeting, Dedi expressed his appreciation for the continued trust placed in Polri in supporting UN peace missions.

"We express our gratitude for the trust placed in Polri, enabling them to continue contributing to global peace missions, both by deploying personnel and increasing human resource capacity," he said in a statement.

As part of its capacity-building efforts, Polri is holding the Annual FPU Commanders Workshop from April 20-24, 2026, and will conduct the Annual Commanders Strategic Course in July to enhance the professionalism and readiness of personnel for international missions.

In its field contributions, Indonesia has assigned 140 formed police units (FPU) personnel to the MINUSCA mission in the Central African Republic and 51 individual police officers (IPO) personnel across five missions: 14 personnel to MINUSCA (Central Africa); 19 personnel to UNMISS (South Sudan); 9 personnel to MONUSCO (Democratic Republic of the Congo); 6 personnel to UNFICYP (Cyprus); and 3 personnel to UNISFA (Abyei).

Dedi further emphasised that the safety and security of personnel is a top priority.

Polri, he emphasised, will strengthen coordination and cooperation with the UN to ensure effective implementation of its duties in the field.

"Personnel safety is our top priority. We hope that through closer and more sustained cooperation, there will be no more casualties among global peacekeepers," he said.

Meanwhile, Faisal expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s contribution to many peace operations.

"We will continue to develop and strengthen this cooperation to enhance our shared contribution to global peacekeeping missions," Faisal noted.

He also stated that based on observations in various missions, Polri personnel have demonstrated professionalism, discipline, and strong adaptability in meeting UN operational standards.
