JAKARTA (Xinhua): The municipal government of Bandung in Indonesia's West Java province has proposed designating the corridor stretching from Simpang Lima to Jalan Asia Afrika as a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan announced the plan on Sunday while attending the 71st anniversary of the Asian-African Conference.
He emphasised that the area preserves a vital global narrative, specifically the solidarity movement among Asian and African nations.
The mayor said the local government aims for the district to be recognised as an official World Heritage candidate within the next four years, noting that the nomination process is a long-term commitment that requires rigorous academic studies to demonstrate the site’s outstanding universal value.
In 2015, the archives of the 1955 Asian-African Conference (the Bandung Conference) were inscribed in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. -- Xinhua
