Japan weighs sharp increase in residency permit fees for foreign nationals

TOKYO: The Justice Ministry released Friday (April 11) approximate amounts for increased fees required for foreign nationals to obtain residence permits.

For changes or renewals of residence status, the current fee of ¥6,000 (US$38) would be raised to about ¥10,000 for periods of stay of three months or less, and to about ¥70,000 for a five-year period.
