JAKARTA: Several inbound flights to Indonesia’s Sukarno-Hatta International Airport were diverted on Monday (April 6) due to extreme weather.

Assistant Deputy of Communication and Legal at PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports), Sukarno-Hatta branch office, Yudistiawan, said heavy rainfall accompanied by potential windshear disrupted arrivals at Indonesia’s main gateway.

"The conditions have affected several flight movements, particularly during the landing phase at Sukarno-Hatta Airport,” he said, according to Antara News Agency, on Monday.

Yudistiawan said that, based on data from the Airport Operation Control Centre, a total of 12 flights were diverted to other airports as a safety precaution.

In addition, 14 flights were placed in holding patterns, 13 executed go-arounds due to unstable landing conditions and one aircraft returned to the apron.

"Flight safety and security remain the top priority in every operational decision,” he said.

He said authorities are coordinating closely with AirNav Indonesia, airlines and other stakeholders to ensure operations remain safe and orderly amid the adverse weather.

According to the news agency, the extreme weather also caused minor damage to infrastructure, including a section of the roof at the Boarding Lounge Gate 7 area of Terminal 3, with videos of the incident circulating on social media.

However, all airside facilities - including the runway, taxiway, and apron - were confirmed to be in good condition and fully operational, with no standing water affecting aircraft movements.

The situation has since stabilised and airport operations are continuing as normal.

Passengers are advised to check flight updates through official airline channels or airport information screens and to arrive earlier in anticipation of possible schedule changes due to weather. - Bernama
