Myanmar plans upgraded barcode and QR code system for petrol stations on Yangon–Mandalay Highway and in cities nationwide

YANGON: An upgraded barcode and QR code system is being introduced at petrol stations along the Yangon–Mandalay Highway and in cities across regions and states.

The system is aimed at easing fuel purchases and reducing queues, and was rolled out on March 27 in Naypyitaw Council Area, Yangon, Mandalay and Taunggyi.

It will be used to verify vehicles and sell fuel based on engine power capacity.

Deputy Minister for Energy Kyaw Naing Win, together with senior officials, inspected operations at the online monitoring centre in Naypyitaw, which oversees fuel distribution and sales in the designated areas.

Authorities are providing training to fuel stations along the Yangon–Mandalay Highway and in other regions and states to implement the system.

For vehicles unable to use barcode or QR scanning, including small commercial vehicles, fuel sales are being manually recorded.

Petrol stations are selling fuel within permitted limits per vehicle, with measures in place to prevent shortages.

Joint inspection teams from regional and state authorities are also conducting field checks and offering assistance.

There is enough fuel at the petrol stations, so the public is encouraged to buy only as much as they need without worrying.

Complaints regarding fuel purchases can be reported to the ministry. - Eleven Media/ANN
