Over 200,000 in Indonesia throng Masjid Istiqlal for Aidilfitri prayers


JAKARTA: More than 200,000 Muslims thronged Indonesia’s national mosque, Masjid Istiqlal in the capital city for Aidilfitri prayers on Saturday (March 21)

The congregation, including foreign nationals dressed in festive attire gathered at the mosque as early as 5.30am local time.

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka was also present to perform the prayers, alongside Cabinet ministers and representatives from foreign embassies.

With a capacity of 200,000, Masjid Istiqlal is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto performed his Aidilfitri prayer at Masjid Darussalam at Aceh Tamiang, Sumatra together with victims of the floods and landslides which hit the Aceh and North as well as West Sumatra November last year. - Bernama
