Suspect in killing of Filipina ex-beauty queen charged with murder

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, Philippines: The suspected gunman in the killing of a former Miss Philippines Earth 2013 runner-up has been indicted for murder before the Isabela prosecutor’s office on Wednesday (March 18).

Police Colonel Manuel Bringas, Isabela police director, identified the alleged assailant only by the alias “JayR.”

He is accused of fatally shooting beauty queen Lullet Jane Ramilo (pic) in Barangay Cabaritan, San Manuel, Isabela, on February 13. The case is currently under preliminary investigation.

Bringas said the filing of charges was part of intensified case build-up efforts, with close coordination between the Isabela police and the prosecutor’s office to ensure the integrity of evidence, proper documentation and the prompt filing of the case.

He added that a special task force continues to track down other suspects believed to be involved in the killing.

Police Captain Scarlette Topinio, the provincial police information officer, said authorities are awaiting the issuance of an arrest warrant against the indicted suspect.

Meanwhile, two other unidentified individuals, listed as John Does, are still being identified and pursued by investigators. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
