YANGON: The Ministry of Labour has announced that legal action has been taken against Su Latt Myint Mo Company for fraudulently collecting money from Myanmar workers under the pretense of sending them to Malaysia and Japan for employment.

According to the ministry, the company deceived workers by promising job placements in Japan and unlawfully collected service fees.

As a result, the company’s Managing Director, Daw Lar Hsan Htan Ngee, has been charged in connection with the case.

The accused Managing Director is currently at large, and a case has been opened against her at Thingangyun Township Police Station under Section 26 of the Overseas Employment Law (1999), case number (P) 35/2026.

Investigations revealed that the company had also previously collected service fees from workers by claiming it would send them to Malaysia, but failed to do so. Affected workers subsequently filed complaints with the Ministry of Labour seeking refunds.

Further scrutiny found that the company neither arranged overseas employment nor refunded the collected fees to the workers.

Due to violations of the Overseas Employment Law and related regulations, the company’s overseas employment agency licence was permanently revoked on May 13, 2025.

The Ministry of Labour stated that it is coordinating, in accordance with the law, to help affected workers recover the fees they paid to agencies or brokers

If workers are unable to reclaim their payments, they are encouraged to file civil lawsuits in relevant courts to seek compensation.

The ministry also assured that it will continue to address complaints from workers, both domestically and abroad, in line with existing laws and regulations to prevent further losses. - Eleven Media/ANN
