PHNOM PENH: Minister of Environment Eang Sophalleth has presented an “Environmental Friendship Certificate” to the “Prey Lang activists” in recognition of their contribution to protecting and conserving natural resources.

He claimed that the environment ministry supports all stakeholders who work together to safeguard and manage natural resources in protected areas, while ensuring sustainable development.

The certificates were presented on Tuesday (March 17) during a meeting at the ministry between the minister and the activists, led by So Sophak, head of the Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Kittipritthbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen Charity Working Group, according to the ministry.

During the meeting, Sophalleth encouraged all partner organisations and communities to contribute to the ministry’s working priorities — especially expanding forest cover — as well as improving local livelihoods and promoting sustainable development, said a ministry statement.

“The minister encouraged the Prey Lang group to cooperate in strengthening law enforcement against natural resource crimes, sharing information, enhancing knowledge, participating in community forest restoration and tree planting, and working together to prevent natural resource crimes at the local level,” it added.

The Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 2016, and covers more than 430,000 hectares across four provinces: Stung Treng, Preah Vihear, Kampong Thom and Kratie. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
