BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Brunei is implementing an expansion plan for Muara Port, which is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2027, a government minister said on Sunday.

Speaking during the 22nd session of the Legislative Council, Pengiran Shamhary Pengiran Mustapha, Brunei's minister of transport and infocommunications, said the project aims to enhance the port's operational capabilities and support the country's logistics sector.

The project is intended to improve operational efficiency, reduce logistics costs, increase throughput rates, and provide more value-added services.

The minister said that, through this project, the container terminal capacity is expected to increase from 220,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) to 500,000 TEUs per year.

The project plans to include the development of a 3.62-hectare port trade zone within the container terminal, which aims to facilitate the import, production and export processes for businesses within the terminal, thus enhancing logistics and trade. - Xinhua
