South Korea to actively consider extra budget, finance minister says

SEOUL: South Korea will consider drafting an extra budget to come up with support measures for low-income earners hit harder by surging oil prices amid the Middle East crisis, the finance minister said on Tuesday (March 10).

"We will actively consider if needed," Minister Koo Yun-cheol (pic) said at a cabinet meeting, adding that it might be possible without issuing more treasury bonds.

Koo also said the government was preparing measures to prevent spill-over effects on the domestic economy and financial markets, including more treasury bond purchases by the central bank to cap bond yield rises. - Reuters
