Draft decrees on the land and rail transport of dangerous goods and regulations for International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs) were also considered.
Government members were given five key documents for study and written feedback. These included the January-February work summary and March plans, the 2026 road construction and improvement plan, the five-year action plan for the modernisation of revenue collection, and the approval of topics for government meetings throughout 2026.
They also covered directives on building an independent and self-reliant economy, highlighting practical steps to strengthen sustainable development.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone highlighted the tense and complex regional and international environment, citing military conflicts, trade disputes, and border tensions as factors affecting global stability and economic conditions.
He urged government members to adopt practical, realistic, and timely measures to protect citizens’ livelihoods while advancing national development objectives.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of active participation by all government members, encouraging them to provide in-depth, evidence-based insights and innovative solutions that will ensure the government’s strategies are effective and achievable.
The meeting follows the election of members to the incoming 10th National Assembly, 5th Vientiane People’s Council, and Provincial People’s Councils on Feb 22, serving as a preparatory platform for the inaugural meetings of the 10th National Assembly and 10th government.
By prioritising an independent and self-reliant economy alongside broader socio-economic strategies, the government aims to strengthen national resilience, ensure sustainable development, and create lasting benefits for its citizens. - Vientiane Times/ANN
