‘Service first, argue later’, says Marcos amid political differences

MANILA: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr (pic) has insisted that his current priority is to address the mounting issues the country is facing, as he sets aside for now forging a possible alliance with the “original” opposition to field front-runners for the 2028 presidential elections.

“Differences in politics should never prevent us from working together for our people,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Feb 22) evening.

“Nation first. Personal agendas later,” he added.

The post showed a video clip of President Marcos and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo on Feb. 20 being asked by journalists if their political parties could coalesce to have a standing chance against Vice President Sara Duterte, who recently announced her bid to run for President in 2028.

In his Instagram, Marcos shared the same video clip but with a different caption: “Serve first. Argue later. Less noise. More nation-building.”

According to Malacanang, any discussions about the 2028 elections is not on the table of the President yet, saying such a move would be premature.

Marcos also found Duterte’s early pronouncement “irrelevant” at the moment, “because there is no need for Filipinos to be divided.”

Former Vice President Robredo also denied that her meeting with Marcos touched on the 2028 elections, noting that doing so would be a “disservice” to her constituents.

Marcos visited Naga City last week to inspect the implementation of the “Oplan Kontra Baha” project, and to personally turn over the special allotment release order (SARO) amounting to P500 million for the rehabilitation of the Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
