EU puts Vietnam, Turks and Caicos Islands on tax-haven black list

BRUSSELS (dpa): The European Union has added Vietnam and the Turks and Caicos Islands to its list of countries and jurisdictions that fail to comply with taxation standards, the European Commission said on Tuesday.

The two jurisdictions were added "due to failure to comply with internationally agreed standards on tax transparency and fair taxation," a press release said.

At the same time, Fiji, Samoa and Trinidad and Tobago were removed from the list "after they successfully addressed long lasting deficiencies," the statement said.

The EU's black list now contains 10 territories: American Samoa, Anguilla, Guam, Palau, Panama, Russia, Turks and Caicos Islands, US Virgin Islands, Vanuatu and Vietnam.

The EU updates its list twice a year. -- dpa
