Brunei sign pact with Interpol to form strategic squads to combat cross-border cybercrime

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) held a meeting at the Officers’ Mess, Gadong Police Headquarters, with a delegation from the Interpol (International Police) Cybercrime Directorate as part of its efforts to strengthen strategic cooperation in addressing cross-border cybercrime threats.

The discussions focused on the evolving cyber threat landscape, the importance of information sharing, and the need for coordinated efforts at national, regional, and international levels.

During the session, RBPF shared information on current trends and cybercrime threats at the domestic level, including key challenges and operational priorities. 

Meanwhile, Interpol presented its latest initiatives implemented by the Cybercrime Directorate, including approaches to addressing the growing commercialisation of cybercrime, as well as operational activities currently underway or planned at regional and global levels.

The meeting aimed to reinforce the collaborative relationship between RBPF and Interpol, particularly in enhancing joint capabilities to combat increasingly complex and global cybercrime. Leading the Interpol delegation was the Director of Cybercrime Dr Neal Jetton, accompanied by Interpol Cybercrime Specialist Officer Wei Xian Tee.

The delegation also expressed appreciation to RBPF for its cooperation with Interpol’s Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore.

RBPF reaffirmed its commitment to continue close cooperation with Interpol in combating cybercrime and to play an active role in strengthening cybersecurity collaboration at the regional and international levels to ensure the safety and well-being of the community. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
