BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: In conjunction with the Diamond Jubilee Wedding Anniversary of His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Mohamed Alam, Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) on Thursday (Jan 22) announced the issuance of limited-edition commemorative products.

The commemorative items comprise coins and a gold foil, and the announcement was made by Executive Director of Currency Management at BDCB Pengiran Maslina Pengiran Mahmud during a press conference.

She said the commemorative series includes gold, silver and cupronickel coins, all of which will be legal tender in Brunei Darussalam. In addition, a commemorative gold foil will be issued, marking BDCB’s inaugural release of such a product.

“All four products feature a warm portrait of His Majesty and Her Majesty, taken during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration organised by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah at the International Convention Centre in 2017,” Pengiran Maslina said.

In terms of design, she noted that the traditional kain tenunan motif ‘Kain Si Lubang Bangsi’ is featured across all products. The woven textile, recognised for its elegance and cultural significance, symbolises refined local artistry through its repeating motifs, fine embroidery and accents of gold thread.

“This textile motif was exclusively selected as the principal design to commemorate this historic milestone,” she said.

Meanwhile, the commemorative gold foil features the personal emblems of His Majesty the Sultan and Her Majesty the Duli Raja Isteri, symbolising the sovereignty and strength of the Royal Institution cherished by the people.

On the composition and pricing, Pengiran Maslina said the commemorative gold coin is made of 999.9 gold, weighs 31.1 grams and is limited to 60 pieces. It carries a face value of BND600 and is sold at a base price of BND6,700, subject to the prevailing gold market price.
