Cybercrime awareness efforts target Brunei senior citizens

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Royal Brunei Police Force, through its Cyber Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department and in collaboration with the Belait District Office and Belait District Security Committee, conducted a briefing on ‘Cybercrime: Online Scams’ specifically for senior citizens in the district.

Chief Inspector Adinin Ahmad of the Cyber Crime Investigation Division, Criminal Investigation Department, delivered the briefing, aimed to raise awareness among senior citizens, who are increasingly vulnerable to cybercrime, particularly online fraud.

Acting Belait District Officer Amirol Hafidzin Muhammad attended the event at the halls of Pusat Insani, Seria on Monday (Jan 19).

The briefing was part of efforts to combat crime in the Belait District, particularly cybercrime, which has been on the rise. The session concluded with a question-and-answer segment.

Such briefings remind the public that combating crime is a shared responsibility, encouraging vigilance and awareness of the dangers of cybercrime, which can lead to significant financial losses.

Legislative Council member Mohammad Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann, who is also Village Head of Bukit Sawat, as well as Penghulu Mukim, Village Heads and senior citizens from across the Belait District were also in attendance. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
