BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Darussalam is expected to experience active and unstable weather conditions from Tuesday night (Jan 13) until Friday night (Jan 16), with the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) warning of heavy thundery showers, strong wind gusts and dangerous sea conditions.

In its latest weather update issued, BDMD said the country is currently in the first phase of the Northeast Monsoon, commonly referred to as the rainy season, which typically brings unsettled weather and intense rainfall.

Showers, which may be heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms, are forecast to affect several areas nationwide, with wind gusts reaching up to 50km per hour during or near thundery conditions.

BDMD cautioned that the active weather raises the risk of flash floods, landslides, fallen trees and roof damage, particularly during periods of prolonged or intense rainfall. Members of the public are advised to take necessary precautions and remain alert.

Over Brunei waters, sea conditions are expected to range from slight to moderate, with wave heights between 0.5 and 1.4 metres. However, the department warned that conditions are dangerous for small boat operations, sea-based recreational activities and marine sports.

Road users, fishermen and the general public are urged to stay updated with the latest forecasts, advisories and warnings issued by BDMD and to take appropriate safety measures.

The department said it will continue to closely monitor weather developments and issue further advisories or warnings if required. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
