National delegation to represent Brunei beyond borders

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A delegation of 16 youth and a national leader are participating in the 49th Ship for South-East Asian and Japanese Youth programme (SSEAYP) in Tokyo, Japan from Wednesday (Jan 14) to February 17.

The national flag handover ceremony for the Brunei Darussalam delegation was held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

The Brunei Darussalam delegation comprises eight males and eight females aged between 18 and 30.

The delegation is led by youth leader Muhammad Irham bRoslan and assisted by assistant youth leader Berlyanna Indah Yordhana Jefry.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Seri Setia Nazmi Mohamad handed over the national flag to Brunei delegation head Ibrahim Sabli. Deputy Chief of Mission/Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Miura Keiko presented the flight tickets to the head of delegation.

Six main themes will be discussed during the programme – Quality Education; Economic Growth and Sustainable and Responsible Tourism; Global Environment and Climate Change; Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery; Social Welfare and Inclusion; and Digital Society and Artificial Intelligence.

The discussion themes were selected from the Implementation Plan of the Joint Vision Statement on Asean-Japan Friendship and Cooperation as Trusted Partners adopted at the Commemorative Summit for the 50th Anniversary of Asean-Japan Friendship and Cooperation on December 17, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan.

The current edition will make port calls in Thailand and Singapore.

The programme activities include courtesy calls on senior government officials, homestay programmes, interaction sessions with local participants, field studies and other activities.

Among the programme’s objectives are to promote friendship and mutual understanding among youth from Japan and Asean member states, particularly Brunei, to broaden youth global perspectives and to further strengthen the spirit of international cooperation and practical skills for global engagement.

The programme is expected to nurture future leaders capable of applying leadership skills across various sectors within an increasingly globalised society. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
