PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times): Cambodia plans to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide. This initiative will facilitate travel and support businesses, especially in transport, by lowering costs and encouraging the adoption of clean energy.
By 2025, about 63% of the national power grid will be sourced from clean energy, according to Keo Rottanak, the Minister of Mines and Energy.
“The vast majority of electricity supplied through the national grid comes from clean energy. This is not only a success for the electricity sector, but also an advantage that we can utilise to promote development in other sectors,” the Minister said at the grand opening ceremony of ZO Motors’ charging station and the launch of its latest EV models in Phnom Penh on Thursday.
He said that the trial operation of a large charging station in Phnom Penh marks a concrete step towards implementing the government’s policy on electricity sector reform in support of socio-economic development.
“Using clean energy not only cuts costs for businesses and households, but also helps lower gas emissions, contributing to a cleaner environment,” he added.
Institutions such as the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Council for the Development of Cambodia are implementing incentive policies to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles and battery-powered cars.
Furthermore, the Electricity Authority of Cambodia plans to install hundreds of EV charging stations nationwide to support the growing use of electric vehicles.
According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, as of September 2025, Cambodia had around 10,600 registered electric vehicles. -- Khmer Times
