Brunei sees growth in cruise tourism

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Darussalam concluded its 2025 cruise season with the arrival of the Coral Geographer from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, marking the country’s final international cruise visit for the year.

The vessel, carrying 81 passengers and 36 crew members, docked at the Muara Cruise Centre before continuing its journey to Miri, Sarawak. Its visit brought the total number of international cruise ships calling at Brunei in 2025 to 15.

According to the Tourism Development Department, the cruise season welcomed approximately 28,776 passengers, a significant increase from 17,860 passengers across 11 ships in 2024.

Key visits included Kampong Ayer, where guests experienced life in the historic water village, and the Royal Regalia Museum, alongside other heritage landmarks. Feedback from passengers throughout the season praised Brunei for its clean, well-managed environment and welcoming hospitality.

Building on the positive momentum from 2025, Brunei is looking forward to a promising cruise tourism season in 2026, with around 24 cruise ship calls projected, beginning with the Costa Serena on Jan 11. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
