'The sun is closer on the camel’s back' festival to showcase Gobi heritage in southern Mongolia

ULAANBAATAR: “The sun is closer on the camel’s back” Camel Festival, held under the patronage of the President of Mongolia, will take place in Dundgovi province on January 23-25, 2026.

The festival’s main goals are to promote Mongolian camels, bring camel-related products and services into wider economic use, and celebrate and spread camel culture.

Programme highlights include a national camel conference, a skills competition for cultural-heritage practitioners, and competitions aimed at selecting the most commercially valuable camel pairs.

The organisers say the festival will showcase traditional knowledge and market opportunities linked to camels, while providing producers, herders and cultural groups a platform to network, trade and share expertise. - Go Go Mongolia/ANN
