Two aftershocks measuring 4.9 and 4.1 strike in Myanmar's Mandalay region


MANDALAY, Myanmar: Two aftershocks measuring 4.9 and 4.1 on the Richter scale struck near Thabeikkyin Township in the Mandalay region on January 1, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

The first aftershock occurred at 7:48:58.m. with its epicentre located about nine miles south of Thabeikkyin Township. The earthquake registered a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale and had a depth of 13 kilometres, the department reported.

A second aftershock was recorded at 8:33:16 am. the same day. Its epicentre was approximately nine miles south-west of Thabeikkyin Township, with a magnitude of 4.1 and a depth of 10 kilometres, according to officials.

The tremors were reported as aftershocks following a stronger earlier earthquake. - Eleven Media/ANN
