Shan State Chief Minister defeated in Myanmar parliamentary election


YANGON: The incumbent Shan State Chief Minister Aung Aung (pic), who contested the Taunggyi Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) constituency representing the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), has been defeated by Nan Kyin (aka Nan Sein), the candidate of the Pa-O National Organization (PNO).

USDP candidate Aung Aung secured more than 52,000 votes, while PNO candidate Nan Kyin won approximately 68,000 votes, resulting in a margin of over 16,000 votes in her favour.

Similarly, in the Taunggyi Township Shan State Hluttaw constituency, PNO candidate Khun Kyi emerged victorious.

In Loilen Township, PNO candidates Khun Aung San won the Pyithu Hluttaw seat, while Khun Thet Naing secured the Shan State Hluttaw seat.

In the Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) Constituency No. (6) of Shan State, which includes Taunggyi and Loilen townships, PNO candidate Khun Tin Htut won the seat.

The PNO has also claimed victories in the Pyithu Hluttaw, Shan State Hluttaw, and Amyotha Hluttaw constituencies in Hopong Township.

Meanwhile, in the Linkhay Township Pyithu Hluttaw constituency of Shan State, Sai Tun San (aka Sai Say Han), a candidate from the Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP – White Tiger Party), won the seat.

In the remaining constituencies of Shan State included in Election Phase (1), the USDP is holding a lead in the vote results. - Eleven Media/ANN
