BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Bruneian youth Faiq Airudin became the first Bruneian to join the Asian Producers’ Platform (APP) Camp for emerging and established performing arts producers.
The nine-day programme was held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and Okinawa, Japan, from November 22-30. It brought together over 50 producers from Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and other Asia-Pacific countries.
The media professional said, “Alhamdulillah, it was a great opportunity to connect with other creatives across the region and build valuable connections to help grow the creative industry in Brunei.”
In Kaohsiung, he explored local artistic practices and the revitalisation of heritage sites. His research included visits to wartime buildings, artisan workshops, community hubs and bookstores.
In Okinawa, Japan, he met artists and curators who integrate art with other fields and visited venues that support cross-disciplinary activities, such as cafés, bookstores and galleries.
The camp concluded with a group presentation and sharing session.
Since 2014, the Asian Producers’ Platform has brought together over 200 emerging and established performing arts producers through intensive camps. Faiq is the first and only Bruneian participant to date.
The programme featured site visits, talks, discussions, research activities, events and informal gatherings. Participants gained more profound insight into local arts and culture, cultural policy, and the social and political contexts in which artists work.
They also had opportunities to connect, exchange ideas and learn from fellow producers across the Asia-Pacific. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
