BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A 33-year-old Malaysian man was fined BND5,000 (US$3,893) by the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Belait after pleading guilty to possessing alcoholic beverages without a valid permit.
Felix Peter was charged under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order, 2006, for possessing 102 cans of assorted beer without lawful authorisation.
Court documents revealed that the offence took place on December 25, 2025, at about 8.10am at the arrival area of the Sungai Tujoh Control Post in Kuala Belait. The accused was arrested by customs inspection officers stationed at the checkpoint.
The charge was prosecuted by officers from the Royal Customs and Excise Department.
Felix Peter appeared before Nur Eleana Dato Paduka Hairol Arni at the Magistrate’s Court on December 27, 2025, where the court imposed a fine of BND5,000. In default of payment, the accused will serve five months’ imprisonment.
The court also ordered all seized items – comprising 102 cans of alcoholic beverages – to be confiscated and forfeited to the government for disposal. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
