Drone bomb explosions kill 13-year-old girl in south-eastern Myanmar

YANGON: A 13-year-old girl was killed after drone bombs exploded near the USDP (Union Solidarity and Development Party) office in Myawady in Kayin State on the night of December 27.

At around 9:30 p.m., a drone bomb exploded near a roadside drainage area opposite the USDP office, in front of a building under construction near the USDP office on Bayintnaung Main Road in Myawady.

As a result, Yadanar Htun Gold Shop, a grocery store and several buildings under construction were damaged. A 13-year-old girl who was sitting inside one of the unfinished buildings was killed, and two others were injured.

“It was extremely frightening last night. Three bombs fell in this area alone, leaving large craters. Even parts of nearby gambling stalls could no longer be found — only engines were left. A girl who was sitting inside that unfinished building died, and two others were taken to the hospital. Many nearby houses and shops were also badly damaged,” said a witness who came to observe the scene.

Similarly, at around midnight, another drone bomb exploded in an empty plot of land near the No. 1 Friendship Bridge, at the intersection near Kanbawza Bank. Although there were no casualties, glass windows of nearby houses were shattered and damaged.

To ensure security for the multi-party general election in Myawady, the armed forces, police force and members of the Kayin State Border Guard Force (BGF), the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army and the Peace Council are jointly carrying out heightened security measures. - Eleven Media/ANN
