VALENCIA/JAKARTA (Agencies): Spanish La Liga side Valencia CF has confirmed with "utter shock" and "deepest condolences" the death of their Women's B team coach, Fernando Martín (Carreras), and three of his children (aged 9, 10, and 12) in a tragic boating accident in Indonesia.
Valencia CF expressed deep sadness and offered condolences and support to Fernando Martín's family, friends, and colleagues following his death and the deaths of his children. The club called the event an "immense tragedy."
The accident occurred near Labuan Bajo in Komodo National Park, Indonesia, on December 26, 2025. A tourist boat carrying 11 people, including Fernando Martín's family, capsized and sank due to rough seas and extreme weather.
Local police also confirmed that Fernando Martín and three of his children died in the accident.
His wife, another daughter, four crew members, and a local guide were rescued.
Other football clubs, such as Real Madrid, have also offered condolences.
In an official media statement, Valencia said they were "deeply saddened by the passing of Fernando Martin, coach of Valencia CF Femenino B, and three of his children, in the tragic boat accident in Indonesia, as confirmed by local authorities.
Indonesian and Spanish authorities said on Saturday that Martin and three of his children were missing after the boat carrying 11 people sank in extreme weather on Friday in the Padar Island Strait near the island of Labuan Bajo, a popular tourist spot.
The search was continuing on Sunday morning, Fathur Rahman, mission coordinator for Indonesia's search and rescue agency in the area, told Reuters.
Real Madrid CF also sent condolences for Martin, 44, a former player in second-tier Spanish football who was appointed coach of the Valencia Women's B team this year.
His wife and one daughter, as well as four crew members and a tour guide, were rescued and safe, SAR said in a statement. - Report from Agencies
