Myanmar joins second Asean-US Maritime Exercise in Indonesia


YANGON: Tatmadaw naval vessel (Kyansittha) led by Captain Khun Aung Kyaw arrived back in Yangon on Thursday (Dec 18) after joining the 2nd Asean-US Maritime Exercise (2nd AUMX) hosted by Indonesia from Dec 9-13.

The naval vessel (Kyansittha) left Yangon on Dec 3 to join the 2nd Asean-US Maritime Exercise, and arrived in Batam of Indonesia, on the morning of Dec 9. Between Dec 9 and 11, the leader and members attended the opening ceremony, and participated in negotiations for sea drills, table-top exercises, subject matter expert exchange, fun games, dinner event and tour.

The 2nd AUMX features a wide range of activities, including maritime manoeuvring drills, formation sailing exercises, basic communications training using hand signals, flags and light signals, ship damage control exercises, search and rescue training, and offshore medical first aid drills.

The 2nd AUMX saw participation by eight naval vessels and one helicopter from Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, and the United States, while representatives from four other Asean member states attended as observers.
